Tom Cruise Talks Dad Issues, Jumping on Oprah's Couch
Tom Cruise rocks the cover of the new 'How to Be a Man' issue of Esquire, dishing on Katie Holmes and Suri, the fabled couch-jumping Oprah incident and getting his start as an entertainer for his mom and sisters.
Featuring a photo shoot equal parts playful and serious, the selected highlights on Esquire's site hint at a rich, deep interview with one of Hollywood's most magnetic leading men.
On his estranged father: "I remember looking at my dad and wanting to understand him. I didn't want to just write the guy off. He was lost. He was overwhelmed by life ... My mother basically did all the work, and then they got separated and I didn't see him for a long time. He didn't try to help the family financially or spiritually, and I lived with the effects of the chaos."
On forgiving his father: "'Risky Business' had become a hit. I hadn't seen my father in about 10 years. I found out he was dying, and I went to see him in the hospital. He knew that he'd blown it. There was deep regret. I think he was torturing himself. We tend to do that. All I could do was tell him, 'Look, it's okay.' I wasn't going to live in blame and regret. I wanted to understand what happened. I wanted to understand, so I could answer the question, What can I do to make things better? I looked at my father there dying and thought, How can I not be that guy?"
On becoming a father: "I'll never forget the moment I became a dad. But it's hard to describe -- that level of responsibility, the desire to give such joy. The clarity: Nothing is more important than this. I remember that first night, just staring at Bella. I was checking her every second, just looking at her, feeling that immediate bond. I was probably looking at her so much that I was keeping her up. I made a promise to her: All I can do is the best I can. But I'm not going to say I'm gonna do something and then not do it."
He loves performing for his kids: "It comes down to the same thing as when I was a kid. Can I create a character that will make her happy, that will make her laugh? And you know what? She makes me get better and better, because she's always asking me to do it again."
And, of course, a word on the couch-jumping Oprah incident: "What happened, happened. I wanted the audience to be happy just like I wanted to make my sisters and my mother happy when I did those skits as a kid. But I'll take responsibility for my actions. Afterward, wild things were being said about me, and once they're in the ether, there's nothing you can do about it. It felt like being the new kid in the schoolyard again and the other kids are whispering and whispering about you and suddenly you hear what they're saying, and you think, What? That didn't happen. Look at the reality of the situation."

The Kardashians Discuss Their Plastic Surgeries
Looks like Jesse James isn't the only newsmaker with something to say to ABC's Nightline this week. Reality-TV's most famous mom and three daughters -- Kris Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, and Kourtney Kardashian -- all sat down with Cynthia McFadden to clear up burning questions about stories that have made their way to countless tabloids, in a new interview airing Monday night (11:35 p.m., ET).
The Kardashians, who openly live their lives on their hit E! reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians, say they have no intention of ending the series anytime soon.
According to ABC News, Kim, 29, said, "We have a really good time doing what we're doing. We love every project that we're into. We're just having a good time." Her sister Khloe, 25, agreed, "We do the show 'cause we're happy and it's fun for us." Mom Kris, 54, joked the show will go on for 52 seasons.
As they continue to willingly put themselves under the public microscope, the women addressed the many rumors that dog them, including plastic surgery speculation. Eldest sister Kourtney, 31, admitted, "I have had breast implants, but it's so funny 'cause it's not a secret, I could care less."
Kourtney, raising 5-month-old son Mason with boyfriend Scott Disick, talked about photos that surfaced after she gave birth, saying, "It's so funny because the 'before' picture that they (In Touch magazine) showed was after I had my boob job, so I'm like, they should have written 'before Mason' and 'after Mason."
Kim went on to deny she has had breast implants or a nose job (but admits that her nose is her greatest insecurity), but did say she has had Botox before, and claimed, "That's the only thing that I've done."
But rumors of comsmetic enhancements are hardly the only controversies Kim has faced. What about reports that Kris pushed her daughter to pose for Playboy magazine in 2007? "I thought it was a good idea," said Kris, adding, "I thought that so many iconic women have done Playboy." She went on to defend herself saying, "She wanted to do it, too. I mean, I didn't force her to go do Playboy."
An ambivalent-sounding Kim tried explaining her side of the story yet again (according to various reports, Kim regretted doing it and said it was, in fact, her mother's idea), telling McFadden, "That opportunity came about to do Playboy," said Kim, "I was on the fence about it. Do I want to be viewed this way or do I want to show women that, hey, I am curvy. I'm not like all these like stick-skinny models that I see on the cover of all of these magazines, including Playboy. And I thought that it would be empowering. And so, I did it. And at the end, I was uncomfortable. And at the end, I had a great time."
Khloe was also given the chance to talk about whether her wedding to basketball star Lamar Odom, whom she'd been dating for only a month before marrying, was paid for by E!, "They had to pay for movie lighting," Khloe said, adding, "Whatever their expenses were, that has nothing to do with me....So whatever they needed for filming purposes, that's what they had to pay for." But was it all just a publicity stunt? According to Khloe, "Well, I'm still married. I don't need ratings like that."

Jesse James on 'Nightline': I'm a Liar, Not a Racist
More sadness-filled nuggets continue to trickle in from ABC's interview with Jesse James, and the latest has the former reality star recalling the moment he told Sandra Bullock about his cheating ways. "I told her basically everything," he said in a snippet aired on 'Good Morning America.' "I had affairs outside of our marriage."
James said Bullock had suspected he was being unfaithful in the past, but "I lied and lied my way out of it. I lied to everyone about everything, even to myself."
But of all the reasons James sat down with ABC's Vicki Mabrey for the interview -- which airs Tuesday on 'Nightline' -- he revealed his main motivation was to dispel charges he's a racist.
"I think out of anything this is why I'm doing this interview the most," he said. "Because dealing with losing my marriage and my son and embarrassing everyone and decimating my life. But to be called a racist on top of that, it makes me really sad seeing the photo and the way I look.
The photo in question (Us Weekly had it) shows James sporting a Nazi hat and giving a Nazi salute. Compounding the bad press surrounding the shot is James' alleged relationship with stripper Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, who has been photographed wearing similar Nazi gear and reportedly sports a swastika tattoo.
"I don't even remember taking the photo," he claimed. "But I can tell by the look of my face that it was a joke. That was funny then, for like a minute. Looking at it in the context of my life now, it's not funny."
James said he "knew it was horrible" to cheat on Bullock but continued to do so out of desire to derail his life because things were too good.
"It made me feel horrible," James said of the infidelities. "And I knew I would get caught eventually, and I think I wanted to get caught. I don't think, I know for a fact now what it was. It was me trying to self-sabotage my life."
The 'West Coast Chopper' star became visibly upset when discussing the people he has hurt most in the scandal and the irony of the path he took.
"The last person I would ever want to harm is her or the kids," he said. "I spent my whole life with the kids and her, trying to protect her. But the most hurt she's ever been caused is by the person who wanted to protect her."
He continued: "It's really, it's terrible. And she's going to hurt for a long time. It's hard for me to talk about it a little bit, because I still really love and care about her."
James covers just about all the bases with 'Nightline' -- his cheating, his divorce from Bullock, his stint in rehab and his role in raising Louis, the baby boy Bullock and James recently adopted.
Asked if he's the "most hated man in America," James answers, grinning, "I think it's the 'most hated man in the world,' now."
Since news of his multiple affairs hit the press, James has kept a low profile, and has only been seen dropping his kids off at school. But while he's generally stayed out of the spotlight, the reality star has issued several statements apologizing for his behavior.
When PEOPLE broke the story of Bullock's adoption last month, Jesse released the following statement to the magazine: "My whole life has been full of hard decisions. The decision to let my wife end our marriage, and continue the adoption of Louis on her own, has been the hardest. The love I have for Louis cannot be put to words. Not having him around to love and to hold has left a huge hole in my heart."
The complete interview will air on May 25 at 11:35 PM ET/PT on ABC, and will be previewed on 'Good Morning America' that day.

Yes, Casey Johnson Is Drunk Off Tila Tequila
According to countless publications, Tila Tequila is quoted as saying, "My baby is a billionaire! She's the heiress of Johnson and Johnson. We are going to make love tonight for our honeymoon."
Um, I'm not sure what this is about, but bi-sexual and lesbian women Casey Johnson and Tila Tequila have come to the conclusion that they will get married.
To prove their love, Johnson gave the reality TV queen a 17-carat-diamond ring.
They announced the engagement at a party for Travis Barker's Famous Stars and Straps clothing line. After recently breaking up with Courtenay Semel and having drama with the LAPD, Johnson seems sure about her next move.
They are so sure, that they were said to have spent over 20-minutes ranting and raving about their recent engagement to media outlets and other celebrities at the event.
Word from the TheHuffingtonPost.com, Johnson was recently "arrested for grand-theft after allegedly breaking into reality star Jamine Lennard's house, stealing her underwear, and using her vibrator." Hmmm...
If that isn't crazy enough, rumors have it that the ring that Johnson gave Tequila is a fake and happens to be the exact same ring she gave to her ex. ::Laughs:: Anyway, catch the video below of Tila and Casey.
Have they gone mad? You let us know.
